AHH...TV Freakout?!...?

I have a RCA Stereo Floor Console model tv set. I love this tv and don't want to buy another...so don't tell me that!!

My problem is this...I was watching it and there were a few grey lines that started across the screen, then it went black and there is one silver line across the middle of the tv....from left to right. I called a service repair guy and he said that it was the "Vertical Spec Chip" or something like that had burned out.

Can anyone explain to me what that is...and about how much would it cost to fix it? Just an estimate will be fine...I just want to know about how much I may have to spend!! TY!!

The model number would help alot, RCA has been making TVs for many many years. If it has a line across it is likely the vertical circuit, could be a capacitor, a diode, a transistor, or integrated circuit, or maybe even just loose solder connections.

Hard to give estimate without looking at TV, but would guess between 100 and 150 to fix at a TV shop.
Reply:You would have done better asking the TV repair guy while you had him on the phone.
