Why does my TV pick up a radio station, and how do I make it stop?





My TV is picking up a radio station -- 103.1 FM -- and plays it through the speakers. It gets really annyoing while watching TV and DVDs. The radio plays even when the TV volume is muted, and it also plays even when the cable box and/or DVD player are turned offm so it seems to be a problem with the TV. I moved the TV to the opposite side of the room, but it didn't help.





My old TV did this as well even though it was made by a different company. My computer speakers (which are in the same room) also pick up the same station, but they don't play it as loudly or as clearly. The other electronics in the house -- which are in different rooms from the problem TV %26amp; speakers -- don't have this problem. How do I make it stop?! Please help!!!

You must indeed live right next to that radio station....!


Try some cheap and cheerful methods first:


1) Check whether your TV has a "Audio IN" socket, and if yes, short-circuit it (or them if it's stereo). Don't worry, nothing will blow up or break.


2) Connect a 0.1uf 250VAC non-polarized capacitor across the power plug of your TV (without killing yourself or burning your house down!).


3) Take a large sheet of aluminum (kitchen) foil, connect it to Ground (the green wire, not the brown dirt), and move it around the outside of your TV housing.


4) Go to the radio station and tell them your problem.

Reply:Man, that is a weird problem, never heard of that before.I would say you are very close to there main trasnmitter. the radio station signal is getting into the reciever of the TV. if it plays with the TV muted then it is demodulating in the output audio amp first stage and being amplified up. hmmmm. you would have to shield the audio amp somehow,, or it could be getting in through the power cord and house wiring and the tv is suseptible to this. If you can borrow a isolation transformer from a college or a tv repair shop that might tell you if this is it. tough one to solve without tools process of elimination. if you can run the TV from a power inverter and a 12V car batt and it still has the same problem then the problem is in the tv and due to a high sig strength problem. If it goes away entirly then the sig is comming from the house wiring but seems to be prevelent in your room. If so run an extension cord for the TV after trying the power inverter, that might fix it.
