HD on TV no lloking "Film quality"?

THe other thay at Circuit City I watched "The Trasnporter" on a HDTV.

And at some scenes it looked so sharp that it looked more like a TV show shot on video than Film (it didn't have that "movie look") And it wasn't just me because some guys complained "it looks like a TV soup opera!"

My question is was this a real HD (BlueRay or HD DVD) movie or just a regular DVD using the HD effect?

Can you avoid that "TV show" look?

HDTV can look amazingly clear and sharp. That can make a HD-DVD look more live than film-like.

The reason for this is that most HDTV's refresh rate is either 60 fps (Frames Per Second) or 120 fps. But cinematic movies are shot and displayed at 24 fps. It's that slower display rate that gives a movie the "cinematic" look.

Some new HDTV's can match this frame rate. Check your owner's manual to see if there's a CINEMA or MOVIE setting, or if you can specify a refresh rate of 24 fps.
