Which is better normal tv or lcd monitor to be turned into tv?

iam thinking to buy a new TV set but really i though in an idea but i dont know if it is better or not.

the idea is to buy a lcd pc monitor and make it as tv using external tv tuner, and i have 2 questions:

1-can i turn the lcd monitor to a tv without any connections to pc? "i will never use the monitor on pc,and i will put it away from pc so i dont want any connections to pc).

2-will the picture on the lcd monitor will be better than a normal tv? or the normal tv will be better? (i cant afford to buy an lcd tv or HD one so i though in LCD monitor).

Which is better normal tv or lcd monitor to be turned into tv?
The difference betweeen a TV and a display is that a TV has a tuner in it (the thing that figures out your channels).

Your PC monitor is a display. So you have to treat it like a TV without a tuner (assuming no PC connection).

You are going to need a monitor that has DVI input.

Then you need a source that has a DVI output, or use a HDMI to DVI cable on a cable box that has HDMI output.

Most monitors are going to look the same as good HDTVs.

Just send your audio to the right place!
Reply:1. LCD monitors have PC input (VGA or DVI), external TV tuners normally output composite, s-video or component... so, you can't connect them. There're some special LCDs that can receive component but they're very expensive, precisely, for that reason. Or there are special external TV tuners that output DVI (but also expensive for the same reason).

2. LCD monitors are intended to be used in front of you, so, the viewing angle is limited. If you sit on a side or at an angle you can't see clearly or can't see at all... again, there're special LCDs that have a wider viewing angle (and they are called LCD TVs). Also, a PC screen is mostly static, when you write in your pc all the background remains the same, only the text is changed, hence, LCD monitors don't need to be fast. In a movie on the other hand, the whole picture is continuosly changing so you need fast response which can be achieved with a nomal TV or a LCD TV.

To sumarize, there's a reason why you find LCD "monitors" and LCD "TVs" in the market. As well as why there are CRT TVs and CRT monitors... each one is specialized and can't be used in the other way.
Reply:IF YOU USE AN LCD MONITOR, you will need either a computer running it AND a SOUND CARD......

OR you will need a Cable box /Satellite Box with either an HDMI OR DVI output on it AND an AUDIO AMPLIFIER......

See how using a PC-based LCD monitor just complicates the whole setup?

But with a TV set, you just plug it into your Cable or Satellite, fire it up and there you go....WHOLE TV %26lt;%26lt;with%26gt;%26gt; audio built in.....
