Hooking a laptop to TV which s-video cord, but no s-video slot on TV.?

I want to hook my laptop to my big tv in the living room so I can watch movies off of it, or play games on my tv. I bought an S-video cord thinking my tv would have a slot but it doesn't. Does anyone know of a way to hook the laptop up with it's s-video slot, to the av cord part of my tv? I didn't know if there was such an attachment to turn one end of an s-video cord to av cords. If you know of a way, could you tell me what the names of the cords I need are? Also, I do have a dvd player that connects to my tv through av cords, and it has an s-video slot in the back, but it says s-video out. If there isn't a way to connect the tv and laptop, is there a way to connect the laptop to the dvd player, then that to the tv? Help Please!!!

You need S-video to Phono:

Reply:You can get an S-Video to AV cable as i am using one myself, I dont know what it is called other than that but you will be able to get one from a specialist Electrical shop such as Maplin (UK), You can also get an S-video - Scart adaptor, this has a scart input to the TV and a S-vid to go into the laptop and it also has a audio phono3.5mmm jack to plug into the headphones socket, and no you wont be able to plug the DVD to the laptop and then to the TV unless you have 2 av inputs on your TV or a doubler (you can get those from the electrical shop too)!

a nice example of cables encyclopedia :)

if your tv has scart ( http://images.thgweb.de/2005/11/16/das_g... ) then you may use the following configuration : from video board -%26gt; s-video to composite adaptor http://shop.edbdimser.dk/images/sandberg...

+ from sound board audio-out =%26gt; connect the scart to composite and audio jack http://shop.edbdimser.dk/images/sandberg... .

the adaptor is usually needed because tv may appear b%26amp; when using s-video to scart. u need to set your video output to your tv region (PAL, d-PAL NTSC etc) and see which is best. ntsc for USA I think, PAL Europe. see google for other advices with searches like 'connect pc to tv'

hope this helped, Emms
Reply:Just go to RadioShack and buy a S-Video cable, an SV adapter, and a standard yellow video cable. Do the same for your DVD player - S-Video Out on the DVD player means that's where it's being sent out to your TV when connected.
Reply:U can't connect your lap top to the TV without the TV having an S-video slot unless your PC has AV slots.
Reply:S-Video is available in high end tvs like Projection TV, Plasma TV and LCD TV. You cannot joint s-video to av slot in any way, s-video contains 5 signal, av cord contain only two signals, till date no convertor is available and will not in future. Regarding DVD, there is only S-Video output in DVD not input so you cannot connect the Laptop and TV using DVD any more qurey please revert back.
