Toshiba 52" tv with convergence issue?

I have a 52" Toshiba that has a problem with a convergence amplifier problem-the ICs for the tv are 15-20.00 a peice on authorized parts dealers-can I fix this myself and save a couple hundred bucks? If I can how do I fix them? I have a soldering iron and solder I just don't know what to look for when I take the back cover off the tv. I assume that the bass from a movie I was watching caused the problem-the tv is about 7 yrs old but replacing the tv is too expensive for me. Sears said for 99.00 they will come to my place on tuesday and if I authorize the repair-the 99.00 goes towards the repair/labor cost but I have already been quoted 340-380 from another shop to come pick up the tv, keep for a week and repair then to return my tv fixed. Should I just let them fix it?

Unless you are comfortable or have worked with high voltage electronics, I would just look for the best quote AND the place that will guarantee the work. It may be easy to fix if you can remove the main board without having to move things around.

Sometimes it can be a pain to get to working on tvs because of needing to remove stuff and room to place the tube, etc.
Reply:Get the SEARS guy out....they don't charge any more than the regular TV guy and he may actually fix it right there in your Home !

I would....and I'm not the Sears guy...

And I charge about $340 to $380 for that type of repair too...

I guess repair charges are pretty consistent across the nation.
