Sony Trinitron 35" tube TV. Model:KV-35V35 Ser#9009889 Mfg in1996. TV just went out in the middle of watching it. Will not turn back on. Possable power surge? It is plugged into one of those cheap power stips/surge protectors with my other A/V equipment (VCR,DVD,PS2) and none of the other equipment went out nor the power strip(red light is still on). Apartment maintenence looked at the outlet and said it was okay but replaced it just in case. TV is too heavy to bring in for repair. Would it be worth it to have a repair man out or should I put the $$ into a new TV? I am pretty handy and wondering if I should try fixing it myself with more info from a book or advice from here.
Thanks!! (My 13" bedroom TV is all I have for the time being and movies just arent the same on that!)
Sony TV went out as I was watching it. Does not go back on now. What should I do??
Try unplugging it completely from the wall and cable TV box for five minutes. Then reconnect everything and try powering it back up. That set is still recent enough to have an overload protection circuit in it. It takes about that long for it to reset and part of the requirement is absolutely no connection to anything that could have a voltage potential.
If not, consider your potential repair costs... a home visit is going to cost at least $75 to get them to show up. The additional parts and labor then depend on what they find. It could be a fuse or it could be a power supply / main board assembly... $300 and up.
Reply:Thanks! Report It
Reply:I would follow J D's advice and you should check for a reset button on the back of the set. It may be as simple as that or even an internal fuse. Good luck
Reply:Buy a new one, nobody fixes them anymore...
